I took my hubby to Madrid to celebrate his 40th birthday. We wanted a short city break and decided to pick somewhere neither of us had been before. I'm pretty sure the lure of tapas and sangria helped us choose Madrid
Its a great city and so easy to explore. A highlight was seeing Picasso's Guernica at the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. I'd wrote an essay on the painting whilst at university so it was great to see it in real life. Madrid has lots of art galleries but this was my favourite gallery as I love modern art
We also enjoyed a walk around the Retiro Park and Crystal Palace. I defiantly had a disney princess moment as I first saw the palace
We also went rowing in the Estanque in the park. I have an obsession with rowing and many of my loved ones have been roped into a rowing session whatever the weather! But this was the first time we have been rowing outside the UK (and the sunshine was a bonus)
We stopped for a cocktail with a view on the roof terrace of the Circle de Bellas Artes. We could of stayed here for hours with the sunshine, cocktails and day beds
The Royal Palace is packed full with flamboyantly decorated rooms, armouries & jewels. The chandeliers alone were worth the entrance queue (although I recommend getting there early)
We stumbled across the Mercado de San Miguel on the first day. Theres a great atmosphere at this market and huge variety of tapas stalls. We loved it so much we returned for more the next day!
I love visiting Cathedrals & Basilicas and the Basilica de San Francisco El Grande certainly didn't disappoint. Its dome is the largest in Spain and fourth largest in the world
How cool is this vertical garden... I loved stumbling across sights like this in the this wonderful city
We ended the trip with a soak at the Hammam Al Andalus Arabic Baths. This was pure bliss and a wonderful way to relax after days of exploring, We pre booked this before travelling to Madrid and I would encourage others to do the same as its very popular
I had a stall at The Fairy Tale Fair in Worthing last month. I've been following them on Instagram and been to one of their previous fairs in Brighton, so its safe to say I am a fan!
There was a lovely atmosphere on the day and so many great stalls and yummy cakes... I could of spent a fortune!
